The relatives of a 3-year-old boy who was found wandering the streets of Miami alone have been located, police said.
The boy was found in the area of Northeast 2nd Avenue and Northeast 49th Street in Little Haiti around 9:30 p.m. Thursday, Miami Police said. He was found wearing just shorts and slippers.
Police said it took more than 19 hours before the boy was claimed by his aunt and grandmother, who came to police around 4 p.m. Friday.
Detectives were interviewing the boy's relatives Friday evening, officials said.
"The circumstances behind how this child was left behind and, you know, why was he abandoned, we still don't know, investigators are still talking to them," Miami Police spokesman Rene Pimentel said. "We don't know if there's going to be charges coming forth to these parents but right now the child does remain in the custody of DCF until they go to court and fix that part."
