Police Shoot Bloody Dog After it Mauled Woman

Authorities say Florida police officers fatally shot a "vicious" dog that had just mauled a woman.

Leesburg police Lt. Joe Iozzi says 66-year-old Sonda Tyson died Thursday night. The Orlando Sentinel reports the woman's family called paramedics about 6 p.m. saying she needed medical attention. When they arrived, they found a large dog covered in blood barking and blocking their entrance.

Paramedics called police. Officers responded and then shot the dog.

Police say it appears that Tyson died from blood loss, but an autopsy will determine an official cause of death. They say the dog belonged to the woman.
