Florida A&M University's chief financial officer has resigned, and two other administrators have been fired, after an internal audit disclosed officials were using unauthorized auxiliary funds to cover expenses in the school's athletics department for more than two years.

The Tallahassee Democrat reports that the school's CFO resigned and the university's budget director and controller were fired earlier this month.

FAMU has previously been criticized for using auxiliary funds to cover athletic shortfalls, and it's a violation of the Board of Governor's policies.

The disclosure was made during an internal audit of athletic funding.

The university's president, Larry Robinson, says the school is working to put stronger controls in place to make sure funds are being spent as intended.
