Snorkeler Who Didn't Resurface at Fort Lauderdale Beach Rushed to Hospital

A man who didn't resurface while snorkeling in the ocean off Fort Lauderdale was rushed to the hospital Monday, officials said.

Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue officials said the man was in the water in the 3000 block of North Atlantic Boulevard when beachgoers noticed he didn't resurface shortly before 4:45 p.m.

Divers responded to the area and found the man, then brought him to shore and began to perform CPR, officials said.

The man, described as being in his late 40s, was taken to nearby Holy Cross Hospital in extremely critical condition.

No other information was immediately known.
