Tenant Claims She's Being Forced Out of Liberty City Apartment Building

One of the residents of a Liberty City apartment building claims she's being forced out for complaining about deplorable conditions.

Jameena Grimes said she's received a letter telling her to vacate the Liberty Village Apartments in three days.

"I know why I'm getting this letter, apparently voicing my opinion was frowned upon so this is why this is happening," Grimes said.

NBC 6 was the first to report on the deplorable conditions for families in the building. Mold is everywhere, so is trash and rodents. According to city inspections and lawsuits, the structures are in disrepair and threaten the safety and health of he community. The City of Miami is now fighting to take control from the landlord, Denise Vaknin and Miami Beverly LLC.

NBC 6 tried to reach the landlord for comment Monday but received no response.

The letter to Grimes was from property manager Kat Williams, or as her tenants call her, Ms. Kat. Williams became hostile when approached by an NBC 6 reporter seeking comment Monday.

"Get out of my face man before you get slapped," she said.

Grimes said she doesn't know what she'll do when she's forced to leave.

"I have no idea, I have no idea," she said.
