At least one person was killed after a Brightline train struck a car that tried to cross the tracks while the gates were down in Oakland Park Thursday morning, officials said.
The incident happened near Dixie Highway and Northeast 34th Court around 10:30 a.m.
Oakland Park Fire Rescue and Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue responded to the scene and found the Brightline train on fire as a result of the crash, officials said. The fire was quickly extinguished.
The car, a Maserati, was trying to move over the tracks when the crossing gates were down, officials said.
Officials said it's unknown how many people were in the car, but at least one person was confirmed dead.
