Dozens of people showed up at a vigil on Tuesday to honor the life of a young woman allegedly killed by her boyfriend.

Tynecia Denise Williams didn't live to see her 20th birthday. Exactly one week after her death, those who loved her came together to honor her life.

Investigators said Williams was killed by her boyfriend in her apartment on Aug. 11. It happened in the 700 block of Southwest 4th Terrace in Dania Beach.

Clifford Bernard Stewart III, 20, is behind bars and has been charged with second degree murder with a firearm. Investigators said he changed his story several times but detectives said he ultimately told them he shot Williams accidentally.

Michelle Kelly said she found out her granddaughter was dead shortly after it happened, "They said she's gone. And I said what do you mean she's gone?"

Williams was a student at Blanche Ely High School and a cheerleader. She graduated last year but the vigil was organized by the girls she held pom poms with, and her former cheerleading coach.

Her grandmother said the vigil brought comfort, "She's an angel up there. She's looking down."

Williams will be laid to rest this weekend.

Stewart remains behind bars without bond. There's no word on whether he has an attorney.
