Cyndi Lauper once sang that “girls just want to have fun,” but apparently Speaker of the House John Boehner does, too.
In his first appearance on “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno” on Thursday, Boehner, a notorious heavy smoker, said he had no interest in changing his life for a shot at the Oval Office.
"Listen, I like to play golf," Boehner told Leno. "I like to cut my own grass. You know, I do drink red wine. I smoke cigarettes. And I'm not giving that up to be the President of the United States."
The comment earned him a round of applause from the audience. Boehner eventually got a laugh, saying that current GOP squabbles and tensions are probably the worst he’s ever seen.
At the same time, he said, he believes Republicans are still on the same page.
"The funny thing about the so called infighting is that we agree on all the goals," the speaker said. "We think Obamacare is bad for the country. We think we shouldn't spend more than what we bring in. We think the President is ignoring the law. It's all a fight over tactics. It's not over what our goals are."
