ISIS “Hit List” Sparks Concern Over Tech Terror

The U.S. military has increasingly urged service personnel to limit their social media activity amid fears that terrorists or their sympathizers could use social media to track them down, NBC News reported. The military issued warnings at least three times in the past five months, but fears were stoked again after a group calling itself the Islamic State Hacking Division posted about 100 service members' personal information sourced from social media. Social media has also widened the gap between how dangerous the threats seem and how dangerous they actually are. "When that gap exists, it wreaks all kinds of havoc on the psyche," Hugh Thompson, chief technical officer of security firm Blue Coat, told NBC News.
