Rescued Hikers Drive Van Into Atlantic Ocean Off Maine

Two lost hikers who had recently been rescued during a rainstorm in a Maine state park died after they took a wrong turn and drove their van into the Atlantic Ocean, authorities said Wednesday. The women got lost while hiking in the park around 9 p.m. ET in heavy wind and rain, when a local search rescue service found them and their dog and drove them back to their van. Authorities received a call about an hour later that the women had driven their car into the water about mail where they had last been seen, a sheriff's report said. The women and their dog were found dead Tuesday, the report said.
