Body Blow: Dolphins Lose AJ Edds for Season

Begin assembling your AFC East Opponent Voodoo Dolls, everyone!

Begin weeping into your Dolphins snuggie: Miami has lost rookie inside linebacker AJ Edds for the season with a torn ACL in his right knee.

Edds suffered the injury in Monday's afternoon training camp session. He was fitted with a protective sleeve and sent back onto the indoor field, but shortly found himself back on the sidelines and covered in ice and trainers.

The news is Not Good. While losing a fourth-rounder out of Iowa, of all places, might not typically be a huge blow to a franchise, the Dolphins drafted Edds to shore up obvious passing downs packages, a particular point of struggle last year.

In fact, even as we typed that, an unchecked tight end took a time machine to last season, ran a post across our computer screen, and gained 200 yards on the Dolphins. Again.

Mike Nolan must now depend on either Channing Crowder or Tim Dobbins to stop running backs and TEs on third downs, and, well, we're all too familiar with the first option, who's not only still himself but coming off foot surgery.

In other words, light candles, hold us, and begin begging all the higherpowers for Miami's opponents to contract swine flu but not die. (That would be overboard.)
