Credit Card to Take Charge of Orange Bowl Classic

Discover Card is close to signing a lengthy sponsorship of the Orange Bowl

In the end, we guess it could have been worse.

Reports now say Discover Card is close to inking a deal to become the title sponsor of the Orange Bowl, which had been sponsored by FedEx for the past two decades.

Sure it doesn't have the same ring to it and it will take some getting used to, but at least it's not the The Milk Duds Orange Bowl it could have been named if initial sponsorship deals went through.

Hershey's was the front-runner to get naming rights to one of college football's most prestigious bowl games, which made about as much sense as an education competition called the Math for Dummies Brain Bowl.

No terms have been released on the deal, but Discover does have an orange "O" in its name, so that kind of makes some sense.

To its credit (or discredit), Discover has sponsored somewhat major sports entities in the past. They have the WNBA and the Arena Football League as feathers in their cap.

On second thought, disregard that last sentence.
