Dolphins' Henne to Miss Rest of Season

Dolphins reportedly close to signing Rosenfels, have gone into full-blown Suck for Luck mode

A person familiar with Chad Henne's status says the Miami Dolphins quarterback has decided to have season-ending shoulder surgery and will be placed on injured reserve Thursday.

The person confirmed the situation to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because the Dolphins had not commented on Henne's status.

Henne separated his left shoulder in the first quarter of Sunday's game at San Diego. He was replaced by Matt Moore, who is expected to make his first start for the Dolphins in their next game Oct. 17 against the New York Jets.

Henne has lost his past seven starts for the Dolphins, who are 0-4 with a bye this week.

ESPN is reporting the Dolphins are planning on signing former Dolphin Sage Rosenfels to take Henne's spot on the active roster. Rosenfels played for Miami from 2002-2005, followed by stints with Houston, Minnesota, and the New York Giants.

He was placed on injured reserve in the preseason with a blood infection, but was later released by the Giants.

The news might be cheered by fans hoping the Dolphins continue to stink up the NFL, giving them an excellent shot at drafting Stanford's wunderkind QB Andrew Luck in the 2012 draft.

But in the short term, don't expect the Dolphins to turn into a juggernaut anytime soon. Moore has made 5 starts for Carolina last year, and the Panthers were in those starts.

They did not have a successful year by any measure, but they did get the first pick in the 2011 NFL Draft.
