Supporting Cast Still Not Enough For Heat

If the Heat can pull this off, the Cheesecake Factory should get credit for an assist.

Dwyane Wade and the Heat are back in Boston tonight, backs against the wall again at 1-3.

Does Wade have another record-setting performance in him? Absolutely.

Can the supporting cast kick in enough to pull off the impossible? Um...we plead the fifth.

The Players Not Named Wade were better in game four, but Wade's 46 points helped mask the fact that he's still not getting enough support. What passed as a good game from the Titos was really just Titos doing their jobs.

And while we're all still basking in the glow of that jaw-dropping performance, it didn't move the Heat a whole lot closer to the second round where the odds are concerned.

Only 8 teams in 393 playoffs series have rallied to take a best of seven. No team has ever come back from 0-3 to advance. Ever.

And of those 8 teams, none sported Jermaine O'Neal and his plunging bad .176 playoffs field goal percentage. O'Neal is now a staggeringy bad 6 of 34 in the playoffs, and if he's able to recover himself it might just be thanks to fans he encountered when he was brave enough to show his face in public at the Cheesecake Factory

"People absolutely made me feel like I'd scored 30 in the [win],'' he told reporters Monday. "I felt like the fans were behind me, and it meant a lot to get that support. It gives you a different kind of calmness. It'll mean a lot if I can reward those fans in a big way.''

They were probably just being polite. O'Neal going 1 for 3 as he did on Sunday isn't going to cut it in a hostile Boston environment -- not that another game in TD Garden, where the Heat have lost seven straight, scares his most valuable teammate.

"When I'm hot like that," Wade said, "I can be hot anywhere."

It sure scared us, but if it's any consolation Wade's Sunday performance did more than just keep the team in the playoffs for now. It just might have ensured that he gets that supporting cast next year.

"When you have a game like that, you hear from guys,'' Wade said. "Don't ask me from [whom]. Summer of 2010 [is] coming."
