Marlins' Stanton and Ozuna Named to All-Star Team

Giancarlo Stanton and Marcell Ozuna will represent the Marlins at the 2017 MLB All-Star Game in Miami

The Miami Marlins will be represented by Giancarlo Stanton and Marcell Ozuna at the 2017 MLB All-Star Game in Miami.

The two players were officially announced as All-Stars, during a live telecast on Sunday evening. Ozuna was voted in by the fans, while Stanton was added to the team as a reserve. It is possible that Stanton could end up starting as the National League's designated hitter.

This is Ozuna's second consecutive All-Star Game and it is the fourth of Stanton's career. While Stanton put on a show at last year's Home Run Derby, he was not a part of the game action in the Midsummer Classic itself. Stanton will be in both the HR Derby and the All-Star Game this time around.

The Marlins could have had even more All-Stars, but lost out due to plenty of competition. Both J.T. Realmuto and Justin Bour had All-Star worthy first halves and were not named to the roster.

The All-Star Game will be played at Marlins Park, which should make this a special situation for Stanton and Ozuna. Both players have thrived at Marlins Park in their careers and they should have the fans behind them. It is considered a once in a career opportunity, to play in the All-Star Game in front of your own fans.

Miami will also be represented in the dugout by Don Mattingly, as the skipper will be part of Joe Maddon's staff for the National League.

The All-Star Game will take place on July 11th at 7:30 p.m.
