Last night at Rik Rak's "Alice in Wonderland"-themed night of pampering, author Marianna Olszewski explained how her new book makes managing day-to-day finances a bit more digestible.

"I wanted something light, fun and girly that women can relate to -- not so heavy and boring," Olszewski said. "This book is a fun way to get smart with your money."

The book "Live It, Love It, Earn It," is a guide to helping women gain financial independence by offering tips and anecdotes from celebs like Diane Von Furstenberg andTory Burch.

"I think this book will give women and moms permission to do what they want to do," she said.  "Women are saying to themselves. 'I can't wait for Prince Charming or for someone to swoop down and save me -- I have to do it myself.'"

Even in a down economy, more women who have achieved one life goal -- marriage, children, etc. -- are ready to pursue the next, which can include anything from a raise to starting a new business.
