"Beauty and the Beast" is coming back to big screen--but this time, it'll be live-action.

"The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn's" Bill Condon has been hired by Disney to direct the fairy tale film, Variety reports. Evan Spiliotopoulos will write the script, and Mandeville Films will produce the movie.

So far, there is no casting news to report for "Beauty and the Beast."

The animated feature, released in 1991, earned a Best Picture nomination at the Academy Awards and was adapted into a Broadway musical in 1994. It has grossed more than $375 million worldwide.

The news comes after "Maleficent" debuted at No. 1, raking in $170 million at the global box office. Coincidentally, Linda Woolverton wrote the scripts for both "Maleficent" and "Beauty and the Beast."

Disney is also working on two other live-action versions of classic animated films: "Cinderella," directed by Kenneth Branagh, and "The Jungle Book," directed by Jon Favreau. In recent years, the House of Mouse has enjoyed successes with live-action retellings of "Alice in Wonderland" and "The Wizard of Oz."
