A central Florida man died after being shot in the chest while standing in his backyard on Christmas morning.
The Daytona Beach News-Journal reports 69-year-old Bruce Fleming was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at the hospital. His wife, son and grandson were at the Deltona home when the shooting happened.
Volusia County sheriff's spokesman Gary Davidson says it appears the Wednesday morning shooting was accidental.
"Based on everything we know thus far, it appears the shooting was accidental," Davidson told the newspaper.
Initial reports said witnesses told deputies a stray bullet may have come from a nearby neighbor's shooting range, but David son it's not believed that that's where the bullet came from.
Davidson says the bullet appeared to have come from the northeast.
Deputies were interviewing a man late Wednesday who may have fired the shot from a nearby residence.
No further details were immediately available.
