The lush patch of grass that once welcomed the homeless to a comfortable nap has transformed into just the opposite — a cactus-riddled zone.
Fort Lauderdale’s Stranahan Park, now satiated with cacti, will give all who dare to nap or sit in the area a poke in the butt, literally. According to the South Florida Sun Sentinel, the official goal of the project was to add beauty to the camp. Several grassroots volunteers united to plant the bristly greenery two weeks ago.

But there is more landscaping to come, a city spokesman told the Sun Sentinel. Various leaders in South Florida had previously said that the park itself would be beautiful without the homeless who live in the area.
The prickly warning has been acknowledged by the homeless, as their numbers have dropped to the few who have managed to find the remnants of a previously soft lawn.
