Husband Mistakes Wife For Intruder, Shoots Her

Husband thought wife was an intruder: Police

A woman was hospitalized Sunday after her husband mistook her for an intruder and shot her in the torso, police said.

Larry Valadez, 39, mistakenly shot wife Neleida Vasquez, 40, Miami-Dade Police spokesman Alvaro Zabaleta said.

The shooting took place at their home in the 14500 block of Southwest 148th Court in the Hammocks.

Zabaleta said Vasquez had gone out to run some errands with her children and Baladez hadn't expected her home so soon.

When he heard noises downstairs, he grabbed his firearm and opened fire, Zabaleta said.

Vasquez was airlifted to Kendall Regional Medical Center, where she was in stable condition.
