Missing Miami Mother and Infant Found

Teen mom who went missing Sunday found alive with infant

A Miami woman and her young infant daughter who had been missing since Sunday and were feared to be in danger were found alive early Thursday morning.

Miami Police say 18-year-old Shatevia Rice and her 6-month-old infant, Tamia, were located hours after the teen posted cryptic messages on social media indicating she was in danger.

Police say Rice and her daughter left her mother's home in the 400 block of Northwest 48th Street on Sunday to go cut her friend's hair.

Her mother, Neicy Drayton, reported her missing early Wednesday and police began to put up flyers and ask the public for help.

Police didn't give details of the social media posting, but had said foul play was suspected and that the mother and child were in eminent danger.

Authorities didn't give details of how Rice and her daughter were found, but relatives said Rice was dropped off at her mother's home early Thursday, around 1 a.m..

They said she was beaten up, didn't have her purse or wallet, and was wasn't wearing the clothes she left in.

The relatives said Rice told them she had been taken from her friend's home to another house where she was held captive by a man along with other girls.

Rice was able to convince the man to let her go, relatives said.

"She didn't say a whole lot because she was traumatized," stepfather Innis Washington said. "She's in fairly good condition, just traumatized, mentally."

The family called police, who took Rice in for questioning and released her later Thursday morning.

"She really can't remember nothing," sister Darshella Streeter said. "Police said she could have been drugged, she could have been hit in the head."

Relatives said Tamia, who needs medication for a digestive issue, was unharmed.

"We don't know what happened still, we still waiting to try to find out how this incident took place, what happened, how she returned, who the people were," Rice's aunt, Cynthia Banks, said. "We still trying to find out."
