Spirit Airlines Pulls Ad Spoofing Prostitution Scandal

Miramar-based Spirit Airlines issued an apology and pulled a racy ad spoofing the Secret Service Colombian prostitution scandal that many people found offensive. Activist Fabio Andrade was one of them. "The airlines are working very hard to bring tourism to our country, and to do this is denigrating," he said. Several Colombian-American women told NBC 6 the scandal is embarrassing, but Colombia is not the one with the tarnished reputation in this case.

Passengers on Miramar-based Spirit Airlines will soon be paying $100 dollars to put a bag in the overhead bins.

The new carry-on charges go into effect on Nov. 6, according to the airline's website.

The price hike will effect customers who purchase the carry-on option at the gate. The current price is $45.

Purchasing carry-ons online will go from $30 to $35. Several other bag option purchases will increase between $5 and $10, while some international baggage fees will actually be reduced.

The budget airline says their baggage fees helps keep base fares low for its customers.

"We empower customers to save money on air travel by offering ultra low base fares with a range of optional services for a fee, allowing customers the freedom to choose only the extras they value," the company's website said.
