Tropical Acres Restaurant Set to Reopen Tuesday

Dania Beach restaurant badly damaged by fire set to reopen Tuesday

When Tropical Acres reopens Tuesday afternoon, managers and staff can get back to doing what they know best.

"It felt like six years," said co-owner Jack Studiale, speaking of the more than six months of repairs and rebuilding at his more than six decades old restaurant in Dania Beach.

On August 29th last year, some cleaning equipment caught fire overnight, badly damaging the historic restaurant.

The restaurant now has new carpet, a refurbished dining room, remodeled bathrooms, fresh decorations, and a brand new kitchen.

"[We] are the most fire safe building in probably all of Broward County," said manager Michael Greenlaw, smiling. "I would bet anyone that we are."

The restaurant now has sprinklers and an advanced fire suppression system.

Nearly every one of the 65 or so employees agreed to come back to work, and Greenlaw says customers will see the same menu and prices when they return.
