University of Miami Holds Forum on Venezuela

The University of Miami's Institute for Cuban and Cuban-American Studies is examining the mass protests in Venezuela and their potential effects on Cuba

The University of Miami's Institute for Cuban and Cuban-American Studies is examining the mass protests in Venezuela and their potential effects on Cuba.

Under the late Venezuelan president Hugo Chavez, Cuba provided Venezuela with doctors and other health care workers, and Venezuela provided the communist island with oil. That relationship continues under current Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro.

The university panel follows weekend demonstrations across Florida in solidarity with Maduro's political opposition. The panel Tuesday will feature U.S. intelligence officer and Miami researcher Brian Latell and former Radio Marti Director Pedro Roig.
