Woman Killed in Shooting at Miami Gardens House Party: Police

Miami Gardens Police is investigating the death of a young woman who was shot at a house party Saturday night.

The shooting happened at 40 Northeast 212th Terrace in Miami Gardens around 8:45 p.m. Saturday.

According to police, upon their arrival, officers discovered 23-year-old Alexandra Dean suffering from a gunshot wound. She was transported to Aventura Hospital where she died.

Investigators said a large group had gathered outside the home when a disturbance erupted. Gunshots were fired and Dean was struck. The house party had been organized and advertised.

According to Dean's Facebook, she recently graduated from Nova Southeastern University with a Bachelors of Science in Nursing.

"Alexandra Dean was beloved by her fellow NSU students and faculty, and we extend our deepest condolences to her family," NSU spokeswoman Julie Spechler said in a statement. "She was a good student in a tough program and had just participated in commencement ceremonies where she received her B.S.N. degree this past May. She was preparing to take her nursing boards. Becoming a nurse was her passion."

Nova is offering grief counseling at the school. A GoFundMe page has also been set up to help the family with expenses.

Anyone with additional information regarding the shooting is urged to contact Miami Gardens Police at 305-474-1560 or Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS.
