A special pair of South Florida children received new hearts.
You wouldn't know it by looking at them, but 6-year-old Jaime Ponce and 14-year-old Daniela Nunez each underwent heart transplants last month.
The surgeries took place at Joe DiMaggio Children's Hospital.
Each was connected to a heart pump while they waited for donors. Jaime waited more than a year, while Daniela's wait was seven months.
During that time, the kids became close through their shared experiences. Now, both have a chance at a healthier life.
Jaime and Daniela are the 19th and 20th patients to undergo a heart transplant at Joe DiMaggio Children's Hospital since the cardiac transplant program began in December of 2010.
