50 Dogs, 11 Cats Confiscated from Florida Home

Animal care officials confiscated 50 dogs and 11 cats from a Jacksonville woman's home after she became overwhelmed by them.

Jacksonville's Animal Care and Protective Services says 49-year-old Audrey Burch was trying to take care of unwanted animals when their numbers grew too high.

The Florida Times-Union reports that many of the animals were living in crates and an unhealthy environment.

Burch says she gained a reputation for taking unwanted animals, and that over time people took advantage of her kindness.

Burch was not charged with a crime.

There is no city law limiting the number of animals one can have, but they can be seized in cases like this where space, food and water are in short supply.
