As his wife did yard work outside their residence, a 91-year-old Hollywood man was battered by a home invader at around 5:30 p.m. on Friday, police say.
Lieutenant Diana Pereira said that the robber simply walked in through a side door of the home in the 1000 block of N 13 Court in Hollywood and when he encountered the elderly homeowner he began punching him.
The suspect took the senior’s wallet before leaving the home and driving away in a white Mitsubishi Galant, police said.
“It was a pretty brazen crime,” Pereira said. “To batter somebody who is an elderly person…even though you might be doing yard work you have to be aware of things that are happening. Be vigilant,” she said.
The man’s wife immediately called police when she found him. He was taken to Memorial Hospital where he was treated for injuries.
Police have video surveillance from the neighborhood that shows the suspect driving through the neighborhood before parking and walking into the residence.
