All Aboard Florida Chooses Siemens to Build Train Cars

Siemens announced this week that it has been awarded the contract to build the cars and diesel-electric locomotives for All Aboard Florida.

A proposed private passenger rail line with plans to eventually run from Miami to Orlando has chosen a company to manufacture its passenger cars.

Siemens announced this week that it has been awarded the contract to build the cars and diesel-electric locomotives for All Aboard Florida. The cars and locomotives will be built in the Siemens facility in Sacramento, California, with key components being manufactured in other Siemens plants in Ohio and Georgia.

All Aboard Florida is slated to begin delivering service between Miami and West Palm Beach with a stop in Fort Lauderdale by the end of 2016.

Construction of the second phase of the project to connect central Florida would begin after the completion of an Environmental Impact Statement. Orlando would begin service by early 2017.
