Armed Robber Fell Flat on Back at 7-Eleven: Broward Sheriff's Office

He fell as he jumped over the counter early on Jan. 8

An armed robber threatened to kill clerks at a Pompano Beach 7-Eleven, but he managed to hurt himself as he jumped over the counter, authorities said.

The middle-aged suspect confronted the two store clerks in the 7-Eleven at 1500 S. Cypress Road on Jan. 8 at 1:06 a.m., the Broward Sheriff’s Office said in a news release Thursday. He entered and yelled, “I’m going to kill you,” and when the clerks spotted what looked like a handgun in the man’s waistband, they ran away and locked themselves in a backroom, the BSO said.

The robber jumped over the counter and tumbled to the floor, falling flat on his back.

Once he was back on his feet, he reached into the register and grabbed the cash drawer, the BSO said.

Surveillance video showed one of the clerks re-emerging from the back room as the robber walked away.

The agency asked for the public’s help in identifying the suspect, who it said is about 6 feet tall, weighs about 250 pounds and has a thick salt-and-pepper beard. He wore a black hat, a mostly black jacket that had gray sleeves, dark blue jeans and black shoes.

Authorities ask anyone with information to call BSO Det. Roger Peterson at 954-786-4242 or Broward County Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS. Crime Stoppers will pay up to $3,000 for information that leads to an arrest.
