Authorities Still Searching For “Backpack Bandit”

The FBI continues its search for the “backpack bandit” who authorities believe robbed two Miami banks in 2011.

The man is accused of robbing a Bank Atlantic on Jan. 24, 2011 at 1190 SW 67 Ave. and a TD Bank on June 26, 2011 at 720 NW 57 Ave. The suspect is described as a white male over six-feet tall with crooked teeth.

Officials said the suspect was wearng a backpack during both robberies but they did not say what the backpack was used for.

On both occasions, he displayed a handgun, ordered people inside to lay on the ground and demanded money. He fled in a white-colored van and a newer-model sports utility vehicle.

The FBI is offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to an arrest. Four agencies are involved in the investigation.
