BSO to Issue Citations to Walkers, Bikers and Drivers

You've been warned!

After a several months long education campaign warning citizens about pedestrian and bicycle safety, the Broward Sheriff's Office will now start handing out tickets to pedestrians, bicyclists, and motorists alike for disobeying traffic laws.

The "Alert Today, Alive Tomorrow" campaign was financed through a funding award of #118,523 from the Florida Department of Transportation and the University of South Florida.

Broward County has the second largest number of pedestrian and bicycle fatalities in the state of Florida, according to FDOT data.

BSO wants to remind drivers, walkers and bikers alike to:

  • Never text and drive.
  • Pedestrians and bicyclists should cross the street in well-lit areas and in designated crosswalks.
  • Pedestrians and bicyclists should wear bright, light and/or reflective clothing making themselves visible to drivers.
