Below-Normal Hurricane Season Likely: NOAA

The Atlantic Hurricane Season has an increased likelihood for a below-normal 2015, according to the updated outlook from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.

The updated forecast released Thursday calls for a 90 percent chance of a below-normal season with lower expected storm activity.

NOAA is now predicting 6-10 named storms with 1-4 hurricanes and 0-1 major hurricanes. The initial May outlook predicted 6-11 named storms and 3-6 hurricanes and 0-2 major hurricanes.

Two tropical storms have already made landfall in the U.S. this year, Ana in May and Bill in June.

Forecasters say the El Nino conditions in the tropical Atlantic are making it difficult for storms to develop. The Atlantic hurricane season ends on November 30.
