Body Found Floating at Haulover Beach on Easter

A body was found floating in the water about a mile or two off shore at Haulover Beach on Easter Sunday.

It was supposed to be a nice, relaxing peaceful holiday at Halouver beach, but for some, the weekend came to a screeching halt after a body was found floating in the water about a mile or two off shore on Sunday.

The body was taken to the Haulover Marine Center where officials waited for the coroner to remove it.

The situation brought some marine traffic to a halt, leaving some boats waiting, anchored in the water, before being allowed to dock.

The body was found by a group of fishermen who were deep sea fishing.

"I was shocked," said Captain Chuck, who was manning the Outkast. "No one ever goes out there expecting to find that kind of thing, so it's really an eye opener."

The captain said he was the one that spotted the body and made the call to authorities.

Witnesses were also alarmed by the discovery.

"It's pretty sad," said witness Elizabeth Hill. "It's Easter Sunday, it's very sad. I have children that go diving out here on a regular basis in the water. I started calling my sons to make sure they're home and everybody's safe."

Police are still investigating the situation and have not confirmed many details, including the identity of the body.
