Body Found by Hurricane Irma Cleanup Crew in Coconut Grove

A man's body was discovered under a pile of seaweed near a waterfront hotel by a Hurricane Irma cleanup crew in Coconut Grove Thursday, officials said.

The decomposed body was discovered under the seaweed near the Mutiny Hotel in the 2900 block of S. Bayshore Drive shortly before 2 p.m., Miami Police officials said.

Police said hotel employees were clearing the parking lot of debris and saw what they thought was a statue. It turned out to be the body, which had been there for several days, police said.

Police said the body was taken to the medical examiner's office to determine the man's identity and cause of death. There was no sign of foul play.

Officials said it was too early to determine if the death was a result of Irma.

Police said anyone who has a loved one who is missing and who frequents Coconut Grove should call them.
