Braves Continue Dominance of Marlins

The Miami Marlins continued to struggle against the Atlanta Braves with their 7-2 loss on Saturday at Turner Field.

Miami is 0-5 against last-place Atlanta this season and had some sloppy defense to blame in this one. The Braves have the worst record in the National League and only four wins at home all season. Two of those Turner Field victories have come in this series with one game to go.

The Marlins had an early lead much like they did on Friday, but that would evaporate. Miami committed three errors including two from Marcell Ozuna. The miscues were costly and gave Atlanta the opportunity it needed to steal another win.

While Miami's defense played a role, its relief pitching didn't help matters either. Unable to pitch around the poor plays, Jose Urena allowed three runs in his lone inning of work. All the runs were earned and Urena was tagged with the loss to fall to 1-1.

Edwin Jackson did not fare much better as he allowed three runs as well in his one inning of relief. Jackson has not pitched much this season due to injury and possesses a 4.70 E.R.A.

All of this relief came after a short start from Wei-Yin Chen who only was in the game for five innings. Due to a heavy workload earlier in the game, manager Don Mattingly opted to lift Chen at 90 pitches. Chen only allowed a run on two hits, but labored through the game and was not efficient with his pitches.

Giancarlo Stanton and Christian Yelich both remained out of the lineup though the latter did appear as a pinch-hitter. It is possible that both players will return for Miami's next series.
