The U.S. Coast Guard has suspended its search for two men whose small plane went down in the Bahamas.

Crews stopped searching Sunday morning for Travis Compton and Bancroft Nyack. The men departed Fort Lauderdale Executive Airport on Thursday in a Piper PA-27 twin-engine aircraft. They were reportedly en route to Grenada.

A Federal Aviation Administration controller reported losing radar and radio contact with them around 11:30 a.m. Thursday.

The Coast Guard says the plane apparently went down about 10 miles northeast of Plana Cays, Bahamas. A pilot flying in that area around the same time reported hearing another aircraft's emergency distress call.

The Coast Guard searched more than 7,400 square miles with crews from Florida and Turks and Caicos.
