The family members of a man who was killed in a hit-and-run on Interstate 95 just days before he was set to become an assistant football coach at a local high school came together Monday to plead with the community for answers.
The family of Carlo "C.J" Ulysse Jr. along with Florida Highway Patrol officials came together to ask the public's help to find the driver involved in the fatal Aug. 5 crash.
FHP officials said the 27-year-old Ulysse was walking on the northbound side of I-95 north of the Oakland Park Boulevard exit when he was struck by a car that fled the scene.
"Mr. Ulysse was involved in a small crash, prior to him being killed on I-95," FHP Lt. Alvaro Feola said. "We investigated two separate crashes, obviously two separate incidents. The first crash is where Carlo was involved with another vehicle, and after that incident, Carlo was walking either on the shoulder, somewhere near the accident, that's where he was hit and killed."
Ulysse had played football for Indiana State University and was recently hired as an assistant coach at Cypress Bay High School in Weston, his Alma mater. He also worked as a personal trainer and security guard and had created a personal brand called "More Fire" to motivate himself and others.
"C.J. was only 27 years...full of life. In fact, this shirt we all are wearing, that's his brand: More Fire. More life. He was a good, good, good kid," father Carlo Ulysse Sr. said.
"I am not threatening. I am actually, at this moment, asking this person who took my son's life away a favor. I would at least want to know what happened," mother Marie Ulysse-Lanoue said.

"I would like to say to this individual, 'come forth. You will never rest. Your soul will never rest until you come forth and speak with the investigators. Speak with a detective. Tell him what happened. Come forth,'" his father said.
