Customs and Border Protection Seizes Thousands of Counterfeit Televisions at Miami Seaport

U.S Customs and Border Protection officers confiscated more than 2,000 counterfeit televisions worth more than $610,000 at the Miami Seaport Friday, officials said.

The shipment of 2,167 LED televisions originated in China and were headed for the Midwest.

CBP officers were suspicious of the shipment, and observed possible infringing recorded MHL and HDMI trademarks. Once confirmed by the specialists, CBP officers seized the televisions.

“Counterfeiters are becoming increasingly sophisticated in their efforts, and CBP officers and import specialists at the Miami Seaport take great pride in protecting Americans from low quality and unsafe products," Miami Seaport Port Director Diane Sabatino said in a statement.

On a typical day in 2014, CBP officers seized approximately $3.4 million worth of goods country-wide, as reported by the CBP. By the end of 2014, the CBP had confiscated approximately $1.2 billion in counterfeit goods.

China, Hong Kong, Canada, India, and United Arab Emirates were the top five countries producing seized counterfeit goods in 2014.
