Man Charged In Heat Dancer Death Out on Bond

Man behind bars for crash that killed dancer last September

A man arrested on two DUI manslaughter charges after being involved in a crash that killed a Miami Heat dancer in Fort Lauderdale last year has bonded out of jail.

Mario Careaga, 43, was being held at the Broward County Jail in the death of Nancy Lopez-Ruiz until Friday afternoon.

Careaga was behind the wheel of his 2009 Mercedes when he collided with Lopez-Ruiz's motorcycle  in the 700 block of East Sunrise Blvd. on Sept. 10.

Police say Careaga drifted out of his lane when he hit Lopez-Ruiz, who was thrown from her motorcycle and died at the scene.

Careaga allegedly told officers at the scene he'd had two vodka drinks before the crash.

Lopez-Ruiz, 22, had just earned a spot on the Miami Heat dance team in June.
