Driver Who Tried to Flee Scene Charged With DUI Manslaughter

Man who was run off road by good Samaritan after Miami-Dade crash charged

The driver who ran over two people waiting at a Miami-Dade bus stop then tried to flee before he was run off the road by a good Samaritan has been charged with DUI manslaughter.

Police say Rolando Aliaga, 48, was drunk when he struck the two unidentified men as they waited for a bus at 79th Street and Northwest 27th Avenue around 2 p.m. Tuesday.

When Aliaga tried to flee from the scene, he was forced off the road by a man in a truck who witnessed the whole thing. The truck driver, Mark Brown, was able to keep Aliaga at the scene until cops arrived.

The two people hit were rushed to Jackson Memorial Hospital, where one later died. The second man is in serious but stable condition.

In addition to the manslaughter charge, Aliaga faces charges of leaving the scene of an accident involving death and serious bodily injuries, DUI with serious bodily injuries and DUI property damage. He's being held on $94,200 bond.
