An elderly Carnival cruise ship passenger was medically evacuated by the U.S. Coast Guard after he was injured on the ship near Cuba Sunday.

Herman Steidel Lebron, 88, was evacuated from the Carnival Victory cruise ship northwest of Cuba, the Coast Guard said.

Lebron, of Puerto Rico, suffered internal injuries during the cruise. He was recommended for medical evacuation after consulting with the flight surgeon, the Coast Guard said.

Rescue crews from the Coast Guard Air Station Clearwater were transporting Lebron to Lower Keys Medical Center in Key West.
