Police Search for Driver After Woman, Dog Killed in Davie Hit and Run

Police are searching for a hit-and-run driver who struck and killed a woman and a dog and left another woman injured in Davie Wednesday evening.

The crash happened on Southwest 18th Street and 86th Avenue. Residents say the area is a 55 and older community.

Officials said one woman, 80-year-old Emma Kelsoe, and the dog died on the scene. The second woman, Vickie McCall, was rushed to the hospital with two broken vertebrae in her back.

"We are in shock, we miss her, everything about her," said Kelsoe's granddaughter, Sara Riviera.

It appears the women were walking the dog at the time of the crash. Neighbors said the driver also knocked down a mailbox.

"Well I walk my dogs every day, all the time, and the street, the main street here, there is only one stop sign in one direction so they fly through at 60 miles an hour sometimes. Quite often actually," resident Grace Bellingham said.

Police said they are looking for a black or blue Toyota Corolla. Anyone with information is asked to call Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS.
