Family Seeks Answers in Murder of Man in Coral Gables

The family of a man who was shot and killed in Coral Gables on the July 4 holiday is asking the public for help in finding his killer.

Richard Hernandez, 24, was shot and killed Saturday in the 1000 block of Salzedo Street.

“If there is anything they can tell me please tell me now,” brother Robert Hernandez said at a news conference Monday.

Robert Hernandez said he and his parents are going through the worst time of their lives.

"They can’t stop crying, they can’t. It’s hard for me to talk in this tough situation, because this is the brother that I love with all my heart," he said.

According to detectives the shooting happened in the middle of day at 1 p.m. A witness said he saw two suspects running westbound towards Lejune Road after the shooting. They were wearing black backpacks.

Robert Hernandez said he has no idea why his brother was up in Coral Gables.

"He doesn’t have any friends in there, no friends, nothing," he said.

Anyone with information is asked to call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS.
