“Happy Bloody Valentine's Day:” Knife-Wielding Boyfriend

Key Largo man busted for un-romantic assault on girlfriend

Nathan Hemby hasn't been struck by Cupid's arrow, and if he were, he'd probably return fire.

The 33-year-old Key Largo man was arrested Sunday after police say he threatened his girlfriend with weapons and wished her a "Happy bloody Valentine's Day."

Police were called to the apartment Hemby and his 50-year-old girlfriend share Sunday afternoon after Hemby had reportedly threatened her for the past few days with a variety of weapons including a knife, a box cutter and a screwdriver, according to the Monroe County Sheriff's Office.

Hemby allegedly held his hand over his sweetheart's mouth, held a knife to her throat and told her he was going to cut off her head and "grind up her body to sell for meat."

Then she says he grabbed a pair of her underwear and said he'd "add it to his collection of the other girls he had to do this to."

After threatening to choke her with two leather belts he keeps on the wall of the apartment, the woman was able to lock herself in a bathroom and call 911.

When deputies arrived, they found the belts and weapons in the apartment. They also found a pair of his girlfriend's underwear in his back pocket.

Hemby was taken into custody and charged with aggravated assault.
