Help Your Child's Teacher Get Extra Cash

You can grade your child's teacher if you think he or she's doing a great job in the classroom

Usually it's the teachers who grade our children, but now parents can grade their child's teacher if they think he or she's doing a great job in the classroom.

A Miami business is awarding $60,000 to Broward and Miami-Dade teachers who are making the grade.

Second grade teacher Wanda Cooper knows what she's doing. She's taught for 13 years now but each year becomes more exciting.

"I'm very close to my students as they go through school," she says.

Whether it's reading to her Nova Eisenhower students or introducing them to how plants and vegetables grow, every lesson is memorable.

"I know that it makes an impact because the kids come back and tell me," Cooper added.

Lawyer referral service 411 Pain is stepping in to honor teachers like her.

"Teachers work really hard and I believe they're underpaid. I believe there's a need for them to feel encouraged and motivated," says Mark Cereceda.

Each month a teacher in Broward and Miami Dade will receive $1,000 for being a top teacher. On top of that, the school receives an extra $1,000.

411 Pain will even award select schools with $5 vouchers per student so they can purchase books of their choice.

"The fact of the matter is they can't afford books. There are book fairs at many schools and they cant' afford to buy books,” Cereceda said.

Cooper is one of the first recipients of the teacher incentive. Her students say there's good reason for that.

"I like how she makes it challenging and she makes it fun,” says 2nd grader Ella Collins.

"We get to do stuff like chess on Friday and we brush over math," 2nd grader Ander Diez added.

"The best part about education is getting students to enjoy it and be excited about it," Cooper said.

Now who else will make the grade?
