Jaxson's Ice Cream Workers, Customers Help Woman Fight Off Would-Be Robber

A man who dragged a woman across a parking lot while trying to steal her purse outside a popular Dania Beach ice cream parlor is wanted by authorities.

The attempted robbery happened on March 8 outside Jaxson's Ice Cream at 128 S. Federal Highway, Broward Sheriff's Office officials said.

According to the BSO, the 24-year-old victim and her parents were leaving the parlor when she was suddenly thrown to the ground and dragged by the man.

Server William Cruz said the suspect had come up and asked what time they closed and moments later he heard screams for help.

The victim's parents yelled for help and customers and staff ran to the scene and were able to get the suspect away from the woman and recover her belongings.

Cruz restrained the man but he struggled and was able to break free.

"I dragged him off and made sure he didn't harm anyone else," Cruz said. "Then I pushed him away and told him to get out of here."

As he ran away he threatened "My home boys will take care of you," officials said.

Officials said the man was about 300 pounds and had a shaved head and distinctive facial hair. Anyone with information is asked to call Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS.
