Robert Ruman was arrested after he beat his wife causing serious injuries. He barricaded himself for several hours until a SWAT team was able to get him out of his Deerfield Beach home.
A Deerfield Beach man in the process of divorcing his wife, beat her, hit her head with an iron fireplace poker and bit her nipple, the Broward Sheriff’s Office said.
A SWAT team arrested Robert Ruman on July 25 after authorities waited for hours outside of his home, calling him repeatedly on the phone, talked to him through a loudspeaker, the arrest report said.
His wife, Judy Ruman, had escaped from their home and gone to her neighbor’s house, where she was able to call police.
The couple had talked about getting a divorce but Robert Ruman said he objected. His wife told deputies that when the two were alone, he “completely lost control” and made threats to kill her and then kill himself, the report said.
According to Judy Ruman, her husband began beating her with his fist and hit her in the head with the iron fireplace poker, the report said.
She was taken to North Broward Medical Center where she was treated for open wounds in her face and head. She was also treated for the permanent damage in her nipple and other injuries in her back, torso, arms and legs.
Robert Ruman owned various firearms and deputies found the guns, knives and iron pokers in the home, the report said.
Deputies found various blood splatters in the house and a trail of blood leading though the living room, dining room, bedrooms and bathrooms, the report said.
Robert Ruman is being held without bond at the Broward County jail, pending trial. He faces charges of Aggravated battery with deadly weapon domestic violence and committing/attempting a specified felony that could cause death. On Tuesday during bond court, Robert Ruman said he didn't have an attorney.
