Man Charged With DUI in Crash That Paralyzed Woman: BSO

A man was behind bars on DUI charges Tuesday in a Lighthouse Point crash that left a woman paralyzed and in critical condition, authorities said.

Michael Anguille, 29, is facing several charges including DUI with serious bodily injury and DUI with property damage in the Sunday night crash in the 4100 block of N. Federal Highway, the Broward Sheriff's Office said.

Anguille was being held on $6,500 bond Tuesday. It's unknown if he has an attorney.

According to the BSO, 55-year-old Kim Smith was driving her Ford Explorer northbound on H. Federal Highway when she was struck by a Nissan Altima driven by Anguille, who was heading in the same direction at a high rate of speed.

The impact caused Smith's car to slide into the median, roll over and hit a tree, the BSO said. Smith and Anguille were taken to Broward Health North Medical Center, where Smith remains critically injured.

Anguille was impaired at the scene and a DUI investigation was completed at the hospital, the BSO said.

The BSO is asking any witnesses to the crash to come forward and contact the BSO at 954-321-4800.
