A man is in the hospital after a fire ripped through his Tamarac home overnight.
Firefighters from Tamarac, Lauderhill, North Lauderdale and Coral Springs responded to the two-alarm fire just before midnight Tuesday at 4711 Northwest 50th Street in Tamarac. The home is located in a subdivision for senior citizens.
Firefighters rescued the man after searching inside the home. He was taken to the hospital. The extent of his injuries are not immediately known. Nearby residents were also evacuated from their homes as a precaution.
The flames were so intense that they shot through the roof, causing it to collapse onto firefighters.
No one was injured, but firefighters had to get out of the home and fight the fire from the outside of the home.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
